Glenridge Hall

Glenridge Hall, a Tudor Revival designed by architect Samuel Inman Cooper and built in 1929 by Thomas K. Glenn, was situated on 400 acres about 40 miles north of Atlanta in what is now Sandy Springs.

Glenridge Hall History

Glenn was a highly respected Atlanta businessman involved in the leadership of Georgia Power, Trust Company of Georgia, and Atlantic Steel, and he and his second wife, Elizabeth, called Glenridge Hall home for many years until Glenn’s death in 1946. The home gradually deteriorated over the next three decades until 1980, when Glenn’s granddaughter, Frances Glenn Mayson, began to fulfill her dream of renovating the magnificent estate. The renovation a seven- year labor of love for her and her husband, Joseph, until her death in 1987.  Joseph Mayson continued the loving revitalization in his wife’s memory, and the once-again beautiful Glenridge Hall served as home to him and his daughter for over twenty years, and as well served the community by being pro-bono host to numerous charity events each year.  The home was also utilized as a production set for a number of movies and commercials, probably most notably Vampire Diaries and Driving Miss Daisy.

While the sheer thought of losing such a large piece of history is saddening, the family deserves great respect for their efforts to preserve as much of the estate as possible prior to its sale and demolition in 2018.  Tremendous work and expense went into the dismantle, packaging and storing of architectural elements. While some pieces were sold initially, a warehouse full of crated items were stored for future use.  We were contacted by the family regarding the salvaged items, and we excitedly acquired the residual of the architectural elements of the magnificent Glenridge Hall!
